Four people were arrested in three separate instances over the last week for attempting to steal hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from Kroger, 55 W. Schrock Road.
A 45-year-old Columbus man was arrested at 2:15 p.m. Nov. 25 for attempting to steal $366 worth of energy drinks. According to Westerville police reports, he was apprehended by a Kroger loss prevention officer after he filled a cart with energy drinks and attempted to leave the store without paying. He was charged with theft through Franklin County Municipal Court and released.
The same day, a 48-year-old Columbus man was arrested at 5:50 p.m. for attempting to steal $287 worth of alcohol and groceries. According to Westerville police reports, he filled a shopping cart with merchandise and attempted to leave the store with it before being apprehended by loss prevention.
He was charged with theft and criminal trespass through the Franklin County Municipal Court and taken to Franklin County jail.
Two Westerville men, ages 19 and 25, were arrested at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 27 for attempting to steal $145 worth of groceries. According to police reports, the pair used the self-scan lines to pay for some merchandise and placed other merchandise in their shopping bags.
They were both charged with theft through the Franklin County Municipal Court and released.
In other recent Westerville Division of Police incident reports:
* The evaporation coil was stolen off of a refrigeration unit at a business in the 400 block of Westdale Avenue between 2:25 p.m. Nov. 21 and 11:30 a.m. Nov. 26,
* A wallet was stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 900 block of Cross Country Drive West between 11 p.m. Nov. 27 and 7:45 a.m. Nov. 28.
* A stereo, stereo equipment, GPS unit and iPod were reported stolen from a student's vehicle parked in the lot at Westerville North High School, 950 County Line Road, between noon and 3 p.m. Nov. 28.
* A 24-year-old man was arrested for attempting to use two counterfeit $20 bills at Kroger, 55 W. Schrock Road, at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 27.
Denver L. Johnson Jr., of Azelda Avenue in Columbus, was charged with forgery, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia through the Franklin County Municipal Court. He was transported by Westerville police to Franklin County jail.
