Rotary Club of Westerville officials recently released information on the results of their holiday food drive.

The collection conducted in Westerville neighborhoods netted food and cash donations equivalent to 25,691 pounds of food.

"That's a lot," said Chris Blackburn, organizer of the event, in a letter to volunteers. "That's nearly 13 tons of food. To give you a perspective, imagine a basketball court filled from baseline to baseline and sideline to sideline covered in food about 5 feet tall."

The donation from the club's holiday drive is enough to feed 359 families of four for a week, or enough to feed seven families of four for an entire year.

Food and money raised by the effort sponsored by local Kroger stores went to the Westerville Area Resource Ministry food pantry.
