Pope selected to lead school board

Westerville Board of Education member Denise Pope has been selected to serve as the board's president for 2013.

Pope was elected to the post unanimously at the board's organizational meeting Monday, Jan. 7.

Pope has served on the board since January 2009, when she was appointed to take the seat of former board member Mike Collins after Collins was elected to the State Board of Education. She was elected to a full four-year term on the board in November 2009.

This is the first time Pope has been elected to a leadership position on the board.

Board member Kristi Robbins was selected unanimously to serve as board vice president for 2013.

Robbins was elected to serve on the board in 2005 and re-elected in 2009.

Robbins served as vice president of the board in 2008 and 2009 and as president in 2010 and 2011.

Also at the Jan. 7 organizational meeting, the board approved its meeting schedule for the year.

Meetings will continue to be at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of the month in the commons of Westerville South High School, 303 S. Otterbein Ave.
