Vaud-Villities

Show will pay tribute to retiring artistic director

By

The 72nd annual spring show for Vaud-Villities Productions Inc. will be "A Night at the Toni's."

That's not a typo.

The singers and dancers in the April 4-7 performances will be honoring former artistic director Toni Auch.

After joining the troupe as a performer in 1970 and going on to become the assistant to producers and directors, Auch was named managing director in 1994. The title was changed four years later.

Auch has decided to retire in order to spend more time with her family, and the Vaud-Villities members she's leaving behind want to give her a rousing send-off.

"The concept for the 2013 show ... pays tribute to Auch's contributions to Vaud-Villities over the years," spokeswoman Maggie Ellison said.

An orientation for cast and crew in the show was held recently at the Northland Performing Arts Center on Tamarack Boulevard.

"Kick-off is an event hosted for the cast and crew to reveal the show lineup and to kick off the rehearsal season leading up to the spring performance," Ellison wrote in announcing the theme of the 72nd annual event. "Cast President Steve Gast and his team of cast officers have been working diligently on planning this red-carpet event to mimic that of the Tony Awards, complete with a highly fashionable artistic team dressed to impress the paparazzi before taking the stage to present the 2013 show to the cast of singers and dancers."

It won't just be the Vaud-Villities' artistic team welcomed to the performances like celebrities arriving at an awards show, according to new managing director Russ Coffman.

"The deal is, we want to give them the feel of them attending an awards ceremony," he said.

Show times will be:

* Thursday, April 4, 7:30 p.m.

* Friday, April 5, 8 p.m.

* Saturday, April 6, 2:30 and 8 p.m.

* Sunday, April 7, 1:30 p.m.
