In an ever changing, fast paced world the gender roles we have come to know have evolved and the collection of hats we wear has expanded into a diverse collection centered on balancing our professional, personal and family life.
On April 17 the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce's Women in Business committee will team up with Otterbein University to host our Women's Leadership Symposium, "Confidence: From the Family Room to the Board Room." The half day symposium will be held at The Medallion Club in Westerville and will kick off promptly at ≈ with registration beginning at 8:30.
Enjoy a morning that will include a continental breakfast, breakout speakers, lunch and a key note address from Maj. Gen. Deborah A. Ashenhurst, Adjutant General of the Ohio National Guard. The cost is $40 for Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce members and $45 for non-members.
The lineup of breakout speakers is full of inspiring and dynamic women. Participants will hear stories of overcoming adversity and creating thriving businesses.
Those presenting are Barb Smoot, executive director for WELD (Women for Economic and Leadership Development); Darla King, King Business Interiors Inc.; and Catherine Lang-Cline, owner of Portfolio Creative.
All three will cover a wide range of topics and are sure to entertain and educate on how they have been leaders from their homes on into their organizations throughout their careers.
"We are delighted to bring you an outstanding collection of speakers who will be addressing topics relevant to today's women in business," says committee Chairwoman Tracy Rush, executive director of advancement strategies, services, and infrastructure at Otterbein University.
Following the breakout sessions, a brief panel discussion with the three presenters will be led by Rene Delane, a member of the Women in Business committee and owner of Women Who Dare LLC. The panel will include topics and themes covered in the individual sessions as well as messages that may have been missed. The panel will present another opportunity for attendees to be engaged with our speakers.
And if the breakout sessions and panel discussion doesn't satisfy your hunger, the lunch that follows surely will. Participants will enjoy The Medallion Club's delicious pecan crusted chicken salad topped off with a delicious warm chocolate brownie sundae drizzled in a hazelnut chocolate sauce that is sure to satisfy the sweetest of sweet tooths.
After lunch the keynote address will be given by Maj. Gen. Deborah A. Ashenhurst, the Ohio National Guard Adjutant General. Her talk is sure to leave everyone in awe of her inspiring leadership and impressive resume of accomplishments.
"We have so many wonderful women leaders in Columbus that are not heard as often as they should be, but hold very important leadership positions," said Caroline Z. Worley, a member of the committee and owner of Worley Law LLC. "I know I will learn more about what it means to be an effective leader and look forward to improving my leadership skills as a woman in business."
The 2013 Women's Leadership Symposium is taking the place of a quarterly Chamber sponsored Women In Business Luncheon and will be a dynamic follow up from January's luncheon that featured Jane Grote Abell, chairman of the board and owner of Donatos Pizza.
The committee is extremely excited to organize such a compelling group of speakers and present an event that will benefit both women and men. The Chamber encourages all who are interested to sign up now as spots are filling up. Register through the Chamber website, westervillechamber.com, or by calling the office at 614-882-8917.
