Woman struck by bullet as man shows gun to relative

A woman was transported to the hospital with a leg injury after her husband accidentally shot her with his 9mm handgun at 11:34 p.m. March 9 at their home in the 400 block of St. Thomas Drive.

According to Westerville police reports, the man was showing his handgun to a visiting family member who was considering purchasing a handgun for himself.

The man told police he unloaded the gun while showing it to the family member, but accidentally reloaded the gun before disassembling it. He pulled the trigger and the gun went off, striking his wife in the calf.

No charges were filed but the investigation into the incident is ongoing, police reports said.

In other recent police incident reports:

* Aluminum and copper components were stolen between noon Feb. 21 and 11 a.m. March 7 from an air-conditioning unit behind an apartment building in the 600 block of Virginia Lane Court.

* Designer sunglasses, a GPS unit, a radar detector and a laptop computer were stolen between 11:30 p.m. March 7 and 8 a.m. March 8 from a car parked in the driveway of a home in the 100 block of Juniper Avenue.

* A residence in the 2600 block of Minerva Avenue reportedly was broken into between 2:35 and 3:05 a.m. March 10, Blendon Township police reported. The homeowners were out of town, and it was unknown what was stolen at the time report.
