Westerville South student named National Achievement scholar

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. recently announced the names of approximately 800 outstanding black American high school seniors who have won Achievement Scholarship awards through the National Achievement Scholarship Program, and included on the list is Mubarik B. Mohamed, a student at Westerville South High School.

His $2,500 award will be used to pursue his studies in medicine.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program is a privately financed academic competition established in 1964 specifically to honor scholastically talented black American youth and to provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding participants in each annual competition.

These awards, totaling more than $2 million, are financed by grants from 34 corporate organizations and professional associations, and by National Merit Scholarship Corp.
