The Westerville Concert Band will perform its spring concert at 3 p.m. May 5 in the auditorium of Westerville Central High School, 7118 Mount Royal Ave.
Led by Director Richard Suddendorf and Assistant Conductor Victoria Straub, the 75-member band will perform a challenging and diverse program, featuring guest soloist Thomas W. Zugger.
Zugger, a trombonist, has enjoyed an international career as a performer, educator and composer. He is the associate professor of trombone and euphonium at the Capital University Conservatory of Music and the principal trombone in the Newark/Granville Symphony.
Zugger has appeared with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and at the 18th Macau China International Music Festival. He has performed for national tours of numerous Broadway musicals and has backed many popular performers.
His latest CD, Dances and Dreams: Recital Music for Trombone, was awarded a Grammy entry list nomination for 2010.
The spring concert will include selections from Roland F. Seitz's March Grandioso, Gary P. Gilroy's Four Dance Episodes, Luther's and Hafner's Variations on Barnacle Bill, the Sailor, Sammy Nestico's Reflective Mood, Alfred Reed's The Hounds of Spring Overture, Vincent Persichetti's Pageant, Robert W. Smith's Encanto, Frederick Loewe's My Fair Lady and Luigi Denza's and Yo Goto's Funiculi-Funicula Rhapsody.
