Dance center earns top honors in competition

Straub Dance Center won a number of awards at the recent Dance Masters of Ohio Convention in Cleveland.

The 7-9 age Dance Line If You Haven't Got an Ear for Music won the Top Overall Line Award. Dancers include Alyssa Focht, Shayla Moarefdoust, Ella Niles, Becca Mevis, Emma Corbett, Caroline Kiefaber, Sydney Johnson, Jamie Zhu, Maddie Hargreaves and Olivia Looby.

The Teen Tap Line dancing to I Love a Piano took the Top Overall Line Award and the "Total Package" Award. Members include Alexis Simon, Taylor Everhart, Seraiah Wells, Kristi Horstman, Olivia Bushong, Maddie Brooks, Emi Malik, Chloe Carpenter, Jessica Brewer, Keeley Watkins, Brittany Barker, Laura Chapin and Elizabeth Looby.

The Senior Jazz Group, dancing to Chair for Sale, received the "Most Entertaining" Award in the Senior Competition.

Straub took the Top Studio Award.

McKenzie McGrath, a 13-year-old New Albany Middle School student, received a Platinum Award and seventh overall (of 114 in ages 13-21) for her Senior Solo dance. She also received an Award of Excellence. Others receiving Certificates of Excellence were Seraiah wells, Taylor Everhart, Kristi Horstman, Keeley Watkins, Eli Malik, Autumn Watkins and Elizabeth Looby.
