The Interfaith Association of Central Ohio will sponsor a four-week book study on the Indian religion of Jainism at the Westerville Public Library from 7 to 8:30 on Thursday, May 2, 9, 16 and 23.

Jainism is a religion that prescribes a path of non-violence toward all living things. Historians date the foundation of organized Jainism between the 9th and 6th century BCE.

Program participants will read An Introduction -- Jainism by Jeffery D. Long and other materials. Specific readings will be assigned for each meeting.

The book study will be co-chaired by T. J. Salgia and Rakesh S. Jain. Salgia, of Galena, has edited and published several books on Jainism. Jain learned the basic practices of Jainism from his mother. Then, as an undergraduate student in Mumbai, India, he and a friend -- now his wife -- embarked upon a joint exploration of Jainism that increased his understanding.

The cost of the four-week study is $25, which includes the book. Those who bring their own books will pay $5. For more information or to register, contact Skip Cornett at 614-775-0787 or email wcornett@insight.rr.com. For more information, visit IACO.org.
