Concert to honor retiring educator

A concert to honor a retiring teacher will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19, in the Genoa Middle School Commons, 5948 S. Old 3C Highway.

The event will recognize Phil Louden for his 32 years of service to music education.

The 40-minute concert and program, which is open to the public, will feature some of Louden's favorite music performed by friends, band directors, former student teachers, former students, current students and parents.

Music will include American Folk Rhapsody by Claire Grundman, Them Basses by Getty Huffine and A Song of Hope, commissioned for Louden and the Heritage Middle School Band in 2002 by James Swearingen.

A reception will immediately follow the program.
