A 32-year-old Westerville woman was struck by a Rumpke garbage truck as she crossed Crescent Drive this morning.

The woman, who Westerville police are not identifying at this time, suffered a major injury to her arm and was transported by medical helicopter to the Ohio State Medical Center, according to the Westerville Division of Police.

The accident occurred just before 10 this morning. The woman was struck by the rear of the truck as it backed up onto Crescent Court from the intersection of Crescent Drive and Illinois Avenue, police said.

The neighborhood is just northeast of South State Street and Electric Avenue.

Police continue to investigate the incident, but the rear warning lights and horn were functioning on the truck, police said.

Police expect to release more information on the accident later this afternoon, said Westerville spokeswoman Christa Dickey.
