Pedestrian struck by Rumpke truck

The woman was transported by helicopter to the Ohio State Medical Center

A 32-year-old Westerville woman was struck by a Rumpke garbage truck as she crossed Crescent Drive Tuesday morning, May 21.

The woman, whom Westerville police did not immediately identify, suffered a major injury to her arm and was transported by medical helicopter to the Ohio State Medical Center, according to the Westerville Division of Police.

The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. Tuesday. The woman was struck by the rear of the truck as it backed up onto Crescent Court from the intersection of Crescent Drive and Illinois Avenue, police said.

The neighborhood is just northeast of South State Street and Electric Avenue. 10TV reported the victim is an Illinois Avenue resident who was walking to the Westerville Public Library.

Police continue to investigate the incident, but the rear warning lights and horn were functioning on the truck, police said.

Police expect to release more information on the accident later this afternoon, said Westerville spokeswoman Christa Dickey.
