Young professionals will race through Uptown shuffle!

Are you looking for something fun and unique to do close to home this summer? The Westerville Area Chamber Young Professionals Network offers the perfect outing for you. Join us for the 4th Annual Uptown Shuffle event, featuring an Amazing Race-style scavenger hunt among Uptown Westerville businesses.

The purpose of the Uptown Shuffle is to create a fun event that attracts new demographics of people to the businesses in Uptown Westerville, to attract new members to the Westerville Young Professionals Network, and to raise money to give back to the community.

The Uptown Shuffle is a spin-off from the Amazing Race, where shuffle teams will each receive different routes with one goal: to reach the finish line first. Participating businesses along the shuffle route create activities in which shuffle teams complete in order to move on to the next stop on the route. Some examples of past activities include blizzard eating contests at Dairy Queen, an obstacle course at the Westerville Bike Shop, singing contests at Outside Envy, and "Guess the Gelato flavor" at Chocolaterie Stam, just to name a few!

"I really enjoyed getting to do so many unique challenges while meeting new people," states Jennifer Hitt, corporate sales representative at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. "I had never been to Uptown Westerville before the Uptown Shuffle, and I got to experience so much of it in a short amount of time. The after party was also a blast and it was fun to relive everyone's favorite challenges and share the strategies we used."

The 2013 Uptown Shuffle will be held on Friday, June 21. A pre-party celebration will begin at Old Bag of Nails Pub, 24 N. State St. The shuffle will kick-off at 6:30 p.m. with an after-party celebration beginning at 8 p.m., also at the Old Bag of Nails Pub (third floor).

The cost to participate is $25 per person. You can register as an individual, we will pair you with a team, or you can register as a team, 4-6 people. All shuffle participants will receive two drink tickets to use at the pre and/or after party, appetizers and the chance to win fabulous prizes. Did we mention a prize will be given to the team with the craziest outfit!! There also will be a raffle with items from participating and local businesses.

Furthermore, if you are interested in getting involved with the Uptown Shuffle but cannot participate in the shuffle itself, we invite you to attend the pre and/or after party for only $5 OR you can donate items to be used in the raffle and/or as team prizes.

Last year, the event featured 20 businesses on the scavenger hunt route and 13 teams. The Young Professionals Committee strives to meet two goals when planning the Uptown Shuffle: to continuously grow the event and to think of new and exciting ways to present the Uptown businesses to shuffle participants. This year we are striving to confirm more than 20 businesses and hope for 16 teams!

Participating businesses in this year's Uptown Shuffle include: A Gal Named Cinda Lou, Chocolaterie Stam, Dairy Queen of Westerville, Deja Vu, Graeter's Ice Cream, Heavenly Cup, Java Central, Marketing Galore!/Blue Turtle Tea & Spice, Morgan's Treasure Custom Jewelry, Old Bag of Nails Pub, Outside Envy, Revolution Nutrition, Uptown Pharmacy, Westerville Bike Shop, Wes Kroninger Photography, and many more!

The Uptown Shuffle is a great opportunity to meet local business owners in the Uptown Westerville area, learn more about the great shops that Uptown has to offer, meet other local young professionals, and to have a fun time! Invite your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc. to participate in the 2013 Uptown Shuffle. Ages 21 & over please! Dress comfortably as the Uptown Shuffle is a race to the finish!
