Safety will come first Friday, when the Westerville Visitors and Convention Bureau hosts its monthly OhioHealth 4th Friday celebration.
The event, dubbed "Safety Fest," will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. June 28 throughout Uptown Westerville.
With a focus on public safety, the event will feature Westerville's fire and police divisions. Other central Ohio agencies and organizations will also be offering tables of information about personal safety, crime prevention and health.
The Westerville Fire Division will have a display set up in the parking lot of the Union Savings Bank, 44 S. State St., where children will be able to "extinguish" pretend fires in the "Squirt House," and Sparky the Fire Pup will meet event patrons.
The Westerville Division of Police will offer free finger-printing of children in the courtyard of the Westerville Municipal Building Courtyard, 21 S. State St.
Police division mascot Officer Big Man and Ronald McDonald will roam Uptown.
The Westerville Puppet Posse will perform safety-themed shows near the Municipal Building fountain, and the Westerville Public Library will read safety-themed stories from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Amish Originals, 38 N. State St.
Organizations with displays will include Safe Kids of Central Ohio, the Franklin County Board of Health, the American Red Cross, Vance Outdoors Inc., Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, Nationwide Children's Hospital and the Westerville Electric Division.
Live entertainment will include rock-and-roll band Legal Tender on the AAA Ohio Auto Club Music Stage at State and Home streets, and demonstrations by Generations Dance Studio, Xcel Martial Arts, the Taoist Tai Chi Society, Leap of Faith Dance Academy, Sounds Educational Center and Empire Cheer and Dance.
As always during 4th Friday celebrations, Uptown streets will be closed to traffic and filled with vendors, food trucks and entertainment. Many Uptown businesses will operate under extended hours.
Attendees who who ride bicycles to the event can store their bikes for free at the Emerald Square Bike Corral on West Main Street behind Emerald Bank in the bike corral sponsored by the Westerville Bicycle Club and DK Fitness.
Local artists will demonstrate their crafts in Arts Alley, sponsored by the Arts Council of Westerville, near Hanby Magnet School, 56 S. State St.
OhioHealth 4th Fridays are held on the fourth Friday of each month -- April through September -- by the Westerville Visitors and Convention Bureau with support from the city of Westerville, the Arts Council of Westerville and the Westerville Uptown Merchants Association.
