Several Uptown Westerville businesses were burglarized between July 23 and 24, with money and merchandise stolen.

Police were called to a business in the first block of North State Street at 5:04 a.m. July 24 on a report of an activated burglar alarm.

The business had been broken into, and $350 was reported stolen from a cash box.

Three businesses in the first block of South State Street, which share a common hallway, were burglarized between 11 p.m. July 23 and 8 a.m. July 24.

A combined $650 was stolen from two of the businesses. The cash register of the third business was pried open, but it had been emptied before the business closed, according to Westerville police reports.

Two other businesses in the first block of East College Avenue reported that between 6:10 p.m. July 23 and 8:35 a.m. July 24, an attempt was made to pry open the entry doors. Entry into the businesses was not gained.

In other recent reports from the Westerville Division of Police:

* A business in the 500 block of South State Street was broken into between 7 p.m. July 22 and 9:30 a.m. July 23, and a cash box was stolen. Surveillance video from a neighboring business showed a large, dark sport utility vehicle park near the business' rear door at 9:50 p.m. July 22. A person entered the store and exited five minutes later.

* A 1-year-old chocolate Labrador retriever was reported stolen from a running vehicle parked in the 200 block of North Sunbury Road between 11:25 and 11:40 a.m. July 21. According to reports, three dogs were left in the vehicle while their caretaker went into a business. When the man returned, the chocolate lab was missing.

* A GPS unit and $40 in cash was stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 200 block of Sterling Glen Drive between 7:30 p.m. July 18 and 7:55 p.m. July 21.

* A woman's designer purse, containing her wallet, identification and credit cards, was stolen from her parked vehicle in the 1000 block of Egret Court between 5:30 p.m. July 22 and 8 a.m. July 23.

* A backpack containing textbooks and a tablet computer was stolen from a car parked in the 200 block of West Main Street between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. July 26.
