Westerville: Men report being shot at during home robbery
Three men told Blendon Township police that an unknown man threatened them with a handgun, taking several shots at them with the gun and missing, before stealing one of the men's cell phone.
The aggravated robbery occurred at 11:45 p.m. Aug. 22 at a home in the 2700 block of Abington Road, Blendon Township police said.
Westerville police reported a 43-year-old Columbus man was arrested for theft as he attempted to steal medical equipment from Mount carmel St. Ann's Hospital, 500 S. Cleveland Ave.
According to Westerville police, the man was a patient at the hospital who was being discharged about 9:45 p.m. Aug. 21 when several nurses and staff observed him leaving his room with a large bag that appeared to contain hospital property.
When he was stopped by security, he was found to be in possession of a computer monitor, medical machine and disinfectant wipes, police reports said.
The items were valued at $4,300.
Police said the man confessed to being addicted to prescription pain killers, and police found in his possession a journal they said they believe contain details of similar thefts at other medical facilities.

* A woman reported a window of her vehicle was smashed out between 3:40 and 4:45 p.m. Aug. 22 while she was parked in a lot in the 300 block of North Cleveland Avenue.
The woman's purse, containing credit cards and some cash, was stolen. One of the credit cards later was used at a Columbus gas station.
