State chili championship returning to Westerville

Sunday September 1, 2013 5:24 PM

CaJohn's Fiery Foods, 816 Green Crest Drive, once again will host the Buckeye Regional and Ohio State Chili Championship.

The championships first came to Westerville last year.

The events, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, both are qualifiers for the International Chili Society's World Chili Championship. Categories for the contests include red chili, green chili and salsa.

There also will be contests for amateur chili chefs and spicy food vendors.

The championship is open to the public, and patrons can stroll past vendor booths, enjoy drinks in the beer garden, watch chili chefs in action and sample the championship chili entries. Admission is free, and chili sampling kits can be purchased for $6.

The event is expected to bring fiery food vendors and chili cooks from across the country.
