The library will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.

The Board of Trustees is seeking applicants for a Library Board Vacancy that opens Jan. 1, 2014. The term is seven years. Applicants must live in the Westerville school district. Residents are encouraged to forward a statement of interest along with a resume to the library's administrative offices at 126 S. State St. to the attention of Elena Vleugels. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 20.

Students who need help with a homework assignment, paper or project can visit the Homework Help Center in the Youth Services area. Hours are 5 to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

* 30-Day Photo Challenge on Instagram. Share a picture a day inspired by The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on Instagram (#guernsey30daychallenge). Submissions will be featured on the library's website and social media accounts throughout September.

* Pete the Cat Party, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3. All ages. Party in your "white shoes" and "four groovy buttons" just like Pete the Cat. The cool Cat will make a special appearance. Meeting Rooms. Registration required.

* Story Hour for Grown Ups, noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4. Bring a sack lunch and hear a story at this adult version of a childhood activity. Meeting Room A. Registration required.

* Kindle Fire Tutorial, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4. Learn some of the basic functions of a Kindle Fire along with some tricks that will help you get the most out of your device. For the Kindle Fire tablet only. Meeting Room A. Registration required.

* Teen Volunteer Training, 4 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4. Ages 12 -18. Learn how to shelve books and assist at library events. Bring your completed volunteer application to the youth desk.

* Facebook Chat with Tess Gerritsen, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4. Author Tess Gerritsen will visit the library's Facebook page for a conversation with her fans. Chat about her medical suspense novels, including the bestselling Rizzoli & Isles series.

* One Book, One Community Book Discussion Group, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5. Discuss this year's selection, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society with fellow readers. Meeting Room A. Registration required.
