Making marks

Olivia Beeson, daughter of Mark and Ann Beeson of Westerville, was recently named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program and was recognized for achieving a top composite score of 36 on a recent ACT test in her first attempt.

A senior at Columbus School for Girls, Beeson was one of 16,000 students nationwide chosen as a National Merit semifinalist based on scores from the PSAT qualifying exam. This is the first step toward becoming a National Merit Scholarship winner, vying for 8,000 scholarships worth $35 million to be offered next spring.

In addition, Beeson was named MVP of her school's FIRST Team 677 robotics team for her composure and scoring as the robot's driver at the 2013 Midwest Regional Competition.
