Westerville Chamber of Commerce, Women in Business Luncheon, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Embassy Suites, 2700 Corporate Exchange Drive. The program, "The Give Back: Building better business by giving back!," will feature a panel discussion with Debra Penzone, Charles Penzone Salons; Janelle Simmons, Limited Brands and Lisa Hinson, Hinson Public Relations. AARP Foundation Senior Community Service Employment Program assists unemployed Franklin, Delaware and Licking county workers age 55 and over with securing employment. The program offers paid work experience, specialized training, upgrading of skills and job-search assistance. Age, income and residency requirements apply. Conway Center for Family Business, Top Ten Reasons Family Businesses Succeed, 7:30 to 9 a.m. Jan. 16 in Alumni Hall at Ohio Dominican University, 1216 Sunbury Road, Columbus. The program, the center's first of 2014, presented by Rider & Reinke Financial Group and Emens & Wolper Law Firm, will focus on 10 avoidable missteps that can trip up plans for the future and how to create a formal succession plan. Wild Ones, 10 a.m. Jan. 11 at the Whetstone branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 3909 N. High St. Cheryl Harner will present "Butterflies as Indicators -- If Your Butterflies Could Speak." Participants will learn how to provide a habitat where butterflies abound and birds come to feast. Harner is an avid gardener and life-long wildflower and butterfly enthusiast whose volunteer work includes longtime leadership in Greater Mohican Audubon Society and Richland County Master Gardeners.

Westerville Historical Society, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Westerville Public Library, 126 S. State St. Rick Helwig will present "Ghost Towns of Central Ohio."
