Westerville police arrest four in series of armed robberies


Westerville police have arrested four people they believe are linked to a series of armed robberies in Westerville, Columbus and Blendon Township.

Jay R. Coplen, Jack P. Coplen and Chelsie N. Kennedy were arrested Feb. 5 after police were called to Subway, 495 S. State St., Westerville, on reports of an armed robbery.

According to a press release from the Westerville Division of Police, a man entered Subway at 9:37 p.m., threatened employees with a knife and demanded cash. The man fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

The Coplen brothers and Kennedy were stopped by police in the area near Subway, and the stolen money, weapon and clothes described by Subway employees were found in the car.

The three were arrested and transported to the Franklin County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery.

Dylan Joseph Teegarden, 22, also was arrested in connection with the robbery as the Delaware County Tactical Unit served a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of Cherokee Drive Feb. 6.

Westerville police say they have tied all four suspects to robberies at Speedway, 360 S. State St.; BP gas stations at 796 S. State St. and 7525 Sancus Blvd.; UDF, 7580 Worthington-Galena Road; Yogi’s Hoagies, 475 S. State St; and Clark gas station, 5870 Westerville Road.
