A 49-year-old man was arrested after he and his 20-year-old son were caught by a property owner attempting to steal wooden pallets at 3:54 p.m. Jan. 27 in the 700 block of Africa Road, Westerville police reported.

According to police reports, the property owner called police to say he had trapped two men on his property after finding them stealing the pallets, which he forced them to put back.

The men told police they believed the pallets were trash and legal to take, even though they were not placed at the curbside.

The property owner asked not to press charges, but outstanding warrants were found for the 49-year-old man for passing bad checks through Montgomery County and for violating open container laws through the Columbus Division of Police, police reports said.

He was arrested on the Columbus warrant and transported to the Franklin County jail.

His son was allowed to leave the property with the understanding that both men are forbidden to trespass there again.
