South mourns unexpected death of receptionist

By ThisWeek Community News  •

Westerville South High School mourned the loss this week of receptionist Kirsten Elliott.

Elliott, 47, died unexpectedly Feb. 18.

Elliott is survived by her son, Travis, a student at Ohio State University.

She was long an active volunteer in the Westerville City School District, and members of the Westerville South community said she served as the face of the school for many and was a key part of the school's staff.

"Ms. Elliott was the face of Westerville South, the first person who greeted students, parents and teachers in the main office," South Principal Steve Andersson wrote in a letter to the school community. "Her efficient work was vital to the smooth daily operations of our school."

Members of the district administration, school board and the Westerville Educational Support Staff Association, sported jeweled turquoise butterflies on their lapels at the school board meeting in memory of Elliott Monday, Feb. 24.

The school has set up a fund through Delaware County Bank to provide support to Elliott's son.

Donations can be made at any bank branch, or they can be delivered to Andersson in the Westerville South office.
