Students at each of Westerville's four middle schools have been participating in school-wide chess activities leading to the selection of a building representative to the Middle School District Chess Tournament, to be held May 16.
After a number of building and/or grade level matches, the following chess champions were chosen. One from each school will advance.
* Blendon Middle School -- Anthony Vilardo, grade six (will advance); Jacob Ginn, grade eight; and Colin Rannebarger, grade seven.
* Genoa Middle School -- Ben Clark, grade eight (will advance); Tyler Lenoy, grade eight; and Andrew Lin, grade sixth.
* Heritage Middle School -- Brian Courts, grade seven (will advance); Adam Wartel, grade seven; and Christian Mehlo, grade six.
* Walnut Springs -- Gabrielle McCrea, grade seven; Sean Bonham, grade eight; and John Massie, grade six.
