For the first time since 2001, a central Ohio venue will host Public Radio International's comedy and quiz show Whad'ya Know?
Michael Feldman's Saturday morning radio show will record live at Otterbein University's Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.
Known for its guests as well as its humor, the show will feature Columbus celebrities Lydia Loveless, Elizabeth Lessner and Coyote Peterson, giving the Westerville broadcast some Columbus flair.
Heidi Tracy, Otterbein's vice president for institutional advancement, has been organizing the event. She said the university is pleased that the show will have a larger focus than just their community.
"For Otterbein, it's dropping the pebble in the water," Tracy said. "We start with what's good for us locally, and then go out statewide and regional and national from there."
Tracy said producers from the show reached out to Otterbein with the idea, but that the university puts itself in a position to host these types of events.
Chris Majchrzak, show manager for Whad'ya Know?, said the location fits perfectly with what producers look for in a host site.
"Otterbein kind of fell into place as a good fit," he said. "The size of venue and the timing in both of our calendars worked out, and of course (Feldman) and the show have a great following in Ohio and (the) Columbus area specifically."
Tracy and the Otterbein staff are excited to give students the opportunity to work with the Whad'ya Know? staff, and they're also looking forward to new guests, who she said will be attending the likely sold out show from throughout the state.
"New people who have never been to our campus have said, 'We know about Otterbein, but we've never had a reason to go there,' and they'll be here for the first time," she said. "We think we have a great campus, and we want people to be able to come see it."
