City schedules 9/11 observance

Westerville's annual Sept. 11 observance will be held at First Responders Park, 374 W. Main St., at noon on the anniversary of the terrorist attack.

Labeled "From Devastation to Hope," the event will be hosted by songwriter and speaker Eric Gnezda.

Gnezda and other musicians will perform a variety of songs, including a bagpipe processional.

Multiple chaplains will be on hand to speak and pray, and there will be both a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps in remembrance.

The observance features three flags from the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11.

The U.S. flag was flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., the Ohio flag was flown over the Statehouse in Columbus, and the Westerville flag was flown over the Westerville Municipal Building.

The three flags are only flown on Sept. 11.
