In the November issue of Ohio Magazine, Westerville will be recognized as one of the "five best hometowns" in the state, part of the magazine's ninth annual awards issue.
In determining the city honorees, the magazine solicited nominations and visited various sites across the state. Nominees were evaluated in six categories -- community spirit, education, entertainment, health and safety, business environment and heritage -- to help its editors make their decisions.
According to a release, editors selected Westerville because, "It embodies all of the qualities and characteristics that make Ohio hometowns so special: family-friendly events, a variety of shops and restaurants, access to arts and entertainment, and an amazing sense of community."
The release cites "easy access to nearby Columbus" and "a thriving business district" among other reasons for Westerville's selection.
Other communities chosen were Defiance, Madeira, Lakewood and St. Clairsville.
The communities will be revealed in Ohio Magazine's November issue, which will be released Oct. 31.
Each of the honorees will be featured in the November, January and July issues.
