Two Westerville South players sign letters of intent
Two Westerville South High School seniors signed letters of intent Feb. 1 to play college football with NCAA Division II programs.
Running back Daxton Cates, who rushed for 1,638 yards and 22 touchdowns on 235 carries to earn first-team all-OCC-Cardinal Division honors last fall, will play for California University of Pennsylvania.
Safety Evan Lese will play for the University of Findlay.
Cates and Lese helped lead the Wildcats to a 6-4 overall record and 5-2 mark in the OCC-Cardinal last fall. They shared the league title with Olentangy Liberty and Westerville Central.
“Other schools like them, but they picked those two schools because they were good fits for them,” South coach Rocky Pentello said. “Both of them worked hard to get what they got. They’re very deserving and they have the potential to be successful at the next level.”
