Westerville Central boys end losing streak

The Westerville Central High School boys basketball team is looking to build on a pair of wins last week.

The Warhawks defeated visiting Dublin Jerome 68-57 on Jan. 11, ending a four-game losing streak. Forward Eric James scored 31 points and forward Kwamel Wade scored 10.

Central defeated host Olmsted Falls 94-89 on Jan. 12 as James scored 34 points, guard Jalen Malone scored 22, Wade scored 14 and post player Jayvon Council scored 10.

The Warhawks were 5-5 overall before playing Hartley on Jan. 15. They are 3-4 in the OCC-Cardinal Division.

Central will visit Dublin Scioto on Friday, Jan. 18. The Warhawks lost to the Irish 61-40 on Dec. 7.

The Warhawks are fifth in the league, behind Westerville North (6-0), Scioto (6-1), Westerville South (5-2) and Hilliard Darby (4-3) and ahead of Worthington Kilbourne (2-5), Jerome (1-5) and Hilliard Bradley (0-7).

Central girls riding 5-game win streak

After starting 0-6, the Central girls team has bounced back.

The Warhawks are 6-8 overall and 4-4 in the OCC-Cardinal heading into their home game against Scioto on Friday, Jan. 18.

Central lost to the Irish 47-28 on Dec. 7.

The Warhawks have a five-game winning streak after defeating Darby 43-39 on Jan. 8 and Jerome 39-37 on Jan. 11.

Against Scioto, guard Andrea Hodge scored 11 points and guard Kelsey Merriam scored 10.

Against Jerome, Hodge scored 17 points.

The Warhawks are fifth in the league, behind Westerville North (8-0), Scioto (6-2), Jerome (5-3) and Bradley (5-3) and ahead of Westerville South (3-5), Darby (1-7) and Kilbourne (0-8).
