Westerville South boys nip New Albany, finish sweep of Kilbourne
The Westerville South High School boys basketball team jumped out to a 17-4 lead and then held on for a 52-51 win over visiting New Albany on Jan. 19.
Freshman guard Kyran McClure converted a three-point play with 1.8 seconds left for the winning points. McClure and senior forward Marcus Ball each scored 11 points to lead South.
The Wildcats defeated host Worthington Kilbourne 55-44 on Jan. 18, completing a season sweep of the Wolves. South defeated Kilbourne 62-58 in overtime on Dec. 7.
In the rematch, Ball scored eight of his team-high 17 points in the second quarter. The Wildcats outscored the Wolves 16-4 in the period.
Senior guard Anthony Dixon scored 14 points.
South girls split pair of games
The girls team split two games last weekend, defeating Kilbourne 46-42 on Jan. 18 and losing to New Albany 50-30 on Jan. 19. Both games were at South.
Against Kilbourne, senior guard Chyna Porter's only 3-pointer of the game gave the Wildcats the lead for good at 44-42 with 59 seconds remaining. Kilbourne trailed 19-11 at halftime before rallying in the second half.
Sophomore guard Chenelle Moore led South with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
South also defeated Kilbourne 34-25 on Dec. 7.
Moore had 14 points and nine rebounds against New Albany.
