The Westerville South High School boys basketball team had a three-game winning streak end with a 68-49 loss to Dublin Scioto on Jan. 29.
The Wildcats, who were 13-5 overall and 8-3 in the OCC-Cardinal Division before playing Westerville Central on Feb. 5, rebounded to beat Hilliard Darby 52-36 on Feb. 1 behind 19 points from guard Jalen Bell and 14 points from forward Matt Chellis.
South will be looking for a season sweep of Dublin Jerome when it plays host to the Celtics on Friday, Feb. 8. The Wildcats defeated the Celtics 60-50 on Jan. 8, as forward Marcus Ball (15), guard D.J. Dingess (12) and forward Trent Slade (11) each scored in double figures.
Against Scioto, Ball had 12 points and Chellis scored 10.
Girls squad prepares for OCC-Cardinal finale
The girls team travels to Jerome on Friday, Feb. 8, for its OCC-Cardinal finale.
The Wildcats, who looked to end a four-game losing streak when they played Westerville Central on Feb. 6, lost to the Celtics 60-26 on Jan. 8.
South lost to Scioto 41-36 on Jan. 29 and lost to Darby 34-32 on Feb. 1.
Guard Chenelle Moore had a team-high 11 points against Scioto and guard Chyna Porter led the Wildcats with 15 points against Darby.
South is seeded 29th in the Division I district tournament and has a first-round bye. It will play at 10th-seeded Pickerington Central or 23rd-seeded Upper Arlington in the second round Feb. 20.
