Scott Dorne will step down as athletics director at Westerville South High School at the end of this school year to take the same position at Thomas Worthington.

Dorne, whose hiring was approved by Worthington Schools’ board of education during its meeting April 8, will start July 1. He is replacing Dan Girard, who will become the principal at Brookside Elementary School in Worthington.

Dorne began teaching at South in 1991. His credentials in the classroom include coordinating the school’s International Baccalaureate Program from 2006-09 and Advanced Placement Program from 2007-09.

He served as track and field coach from 1995-2006 and cross country coach from 1992-2000. He was a track and field assistant in 2008 and 2009 before replacing Dave Siess as athletics director in the summer of 2009.

“I have mixed emotions (about leaving),” Dorne said. “My heart has been in Westerville South for 22 years, but this is an exciting opportunity, of course.”
