Westerville Central High School senior Chloe Merriss will compete as a diver for the University of Cincinnati.
She holds Central’s scoring records for six (236.5 points) and 11 dives (387.1). She was seventh (387.1) in the Division I district meet last season.
Merriss, who also competes with the Ohio State Diving Club, was recruited by several colleges in Divisions I and II but turned down scholarship offers to attend Cincinnati and major in physical therapy, according to her father, Dan.
Merriss previously was a competitive gymnast for five years at Buckeye Gymnastics.
“She started out as a gymnast and kind of transitioned into diving and it’s a transition that she worked really hard at,” Central diving coach Matt Temple said. “It’s obviously worked out well for her. She put in a lot of hard work to get to this point.”
