South boys team edges Central in key match

The Westerville South High School boys bowling team moved into first place in the Central Ohio High School Bowling Conference-North Division following a 2,469-2,422 win over Westerville Central on Jan. 15 at Columbus Square Bowling Palace.

South was 7-1 in the league before facing Hilliard Davidson on Jan. 21.

The Wildcats also lead the OCC-Cardinal at 4-0, ahead of second-place Central (3-1).

James Price led South with a 436 series against Central, followed by Jack Michael (414) and Adam Henson (400).

Through 18 games, Henson had a team-best 210 average.

The South girls team also was first in the COHSBC-North at 7-0 before Jan. 21, ahead of second-place Central (6-1).

The Wildcats defeated the Warhawks 2,127-1,762. Mahaya Porter had a 405 series, followed by Rachel Ellis (394) and Maranda Reed (364).

Through nine games, Ellis had a 171.2 average.

South also was leading the OCC-Cardinal at 4-0, ahead of Central (2-2).

Central competes in Zanesville

The Central girls team won the Muskingum University High School Bowling Invitational on Jan. 18 at Sunrise Strikes in Zanesville, defeating Zanesville in three games in the best-of-three Baker game format.

Central had scores of 151, 145 and 190. Savannah Slark was named to the all-tournament team.

In the loss to South, Slark had a 334 series and Katelynn Rygg had a 318.

Led by Slark's 361 series, Central defeated Olentangy Orange 1,928-1,467 on Jan. 17 at Capri Lanes.

Through 26 games, Slark had a 183.4 average.

The Warhawks were 6-2 overall before competing against Hilliard Bradley on Jan. 22.

The boys team finished second behind Zanesville in the Muskingum tournament, losing 202-155 and 181-149 in the best-of-three format. Austin Bleiweiss, Marcus Gonce and Conor Starkey were named to the all-tournament team.

Against South, Bleiweiss had a 468 series and Michael Spiers had a 411.

Central lost to Orange 2,190-2,133 as Bleiweiss had a 430.

The Warhawks were 8-2 overall and 7-2 in the COHSBC-North before facing Bradley.

North girls top Darby, fall to Delaware

The North girls team is 4-4 overall, 4-3 in the COHSBC-North and 1-4 in the OCC-Cardinal.

The Warriors defeated Hilliard Darby 1,463-1,155 on Jan. 15 at Ten Pin Alley as Kaylee Joseph had a 326 series.

The Warriors lost to Delaware 1,712-1,612 on Jan. 17 at Columbus Square Bowling Palace as Joseph had a 303.

Joseph has a 173 average.

The boys team is 1-9 overall, 1-8 in the COHSBC-North and 0-5 in the OCC-Cardinal.

The Warriors lost to Darby 1,838-1,694 as Dylan Henthorne had a 333 series and fell to Delaware 2.079-1,714 as Andrew Sturgell had a 316 series.

Nickolas Pannell has a 167 average.
