Westerville Central sending eight players to next level

Eight players from the Westerville Central High School football team will compete at the collegiate level.

The Warhawks are coming off a season in which they won the OCC-Cardinal Division at 7-0 and finished 10-2 overall after reaching the second round of the Division I, Region 1 playoffs.

Leading the way was quarterback Jared Drake, who will play at East Tennessee State. He was captain of ThisWeek’s Super 25, Player of the Year in the district and OCC-Cardinal and first-team all-state after passing for 2,873 yards with 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and rushing for 745 yards and nine scores.

Offensive lineman Nick Richardson, who was first-team all-state, all-district and all-league, will play at Kentucky.

Running back Alex Fisher will play at East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University. Last season, he rushed for 722 yards and 15 touchdowns and was first-team all-league and special mention all-district.

Wide receiver and defensive back Eldin Anu, who had 36 catches for 472 yards and five touchdowns and was first-team all-district on defense and second-team all-league, will play at Kent State.

Wide receiver Tommy Mansfield, who had 35 catches for 633 yards and six touchdowns and was first-team all-league and special mention all-district, will play at Colgate.

Defensive back Micah Lowe, who was first-team all-league and honorable mention all-district, will play at West Liberty (W.Va.) University.

Defensive back Jeremiah Shaw, who was special mention all-league and honorable mention all-district, will play at Cornell and linebacker Jordan Bratton will play at West Virginia State.
