The Westerville North High School boys basketball team got the chance to play Westerville Central for the third time this season after defeating host Worthington Kilbourne 47-44 in the first round of the Division I district tournament Feb. 21.

The 25th-seeded Warriors improved to 11-12 and played at eighth-seeded Central in the second round Feb. 26. The Warhawks, who had a first-round bye, were 17-5.

Central defeated North 58-55 on Dec. 20 and 64-63 on Jan. 31 on its way to winning the OCC-Cardinal Division title at 13-1. The Warriors finished fourth at 8-6.

North led Kilbourne for most of the game, but trailed early in the fourth quarter. Mike Chambers' two free throws gave the Wolves a 38-36 lead, their first since 7-6.

North's R.J. Hutcherson scored inside and Isaiah Keene scored off a steal to give the Warriors a 45-42 lead with 1 minute, 25 seconds remaining. Corey Benton hit two free throws with 1.9 seconds left to close the scoring.

Keene scored 14 points and Benton and Hutcherson each scored 10.

Chambers scored 15 points for the 16th-seeded Wolves, who finished 14-9.

"It's a fantastic win for the program," coach Shan Trusley said. "The schedule that we played this year prepped us for this game."

The North-Central winner plays 10th-seeded Delaware or 18th-seeded New Albany in a district semifinal Wednesday, March 5, at Olentangy Orange. The winner plays in a district final March 8 at the Fairgrounds Coliseum.

Central closed the regular season by defeating New Albany 63-45 on Feb. 18 at home. Eric James scored 22 points and Kwamel Wade added 10.

South to play host to Davidson

South, which is seeded 11th in the district tournament, plays host to 35th-seeded Hilliard Davidson in the second round Friday, Feb. 28.

Both teams had a first-round bye. South is 15-5 and Davidson is 5-17.

The winner plays fourth-seeded Zanesville or 26th-seeded Dresden Tri-Valley in a district semifinal Tuesday, March 4, at Central, with that winner moving on to a district final March 8 at the Fairgrounds.

The Wildcats closed the regular season by winning at Buckeye Valley 65-49 on Feb. 18. D.J. Dingess led South with 20 points, followed by Jelani Rogers and Andre Wesson with 11 apiece and Jordan Humphrey with 10.
