The Westerville club hockey team is making a run toward another berth in the Buckeye Cup state tournament.

The Warcats are 12-5-1 overall and 6-3 in the Greater Columbus High School Club Hockey League.

Last season, Westerville finished 23-18-4 overall and went 13-8-3 with 29 points in the league to secure the GCHSCHL's third and final berth in the state tournament.

The Warcats went 1-2 in the 12-team tournament.

"We had a big jump last year and we're looking to build on that even more," said second-year coach Brian Thompson, whose team finished 12-21-4 in 2014-15. "We have some guys with experience. We had a really good group last year."

Sophomore forward Grant Dickinson (Westerville North) leads the team in scoring with 19 goals and 13 assists after recording a team-high 42 goals along with 21 assists last season.

Senior forward Evan Ingram (Westerville Central) has 15 goals and 15 assists, and senior forward Colton Siemer (North) has 12 goals and 12 assists.

Senior forward Victor Runyon (Westerville South) has 14 goals and seven assists after finishing last season with 14 goals and 12 assists.

"It's a good start," Runyon said. "We did some preseason tournaments to get the wheels going before these league games and that's helped us a lot in these early games."

Senior forward Evan Garber (North) has five goals and eight assists after recording 10 goals and 14 assists last season.

Sophomore goaltender Sean Coonfare, who attends Oakstone Academy, is 7-4-1 in his second season as the starter. Last season, he went 18-13-4 with a 3.18 goals-against average and an .878 save percentage.

"We have a lot more individual skill," Coonfare said. "The off-ice practices really got us more stamina, which will help during games."

Sophomore Spencer Jolley (North) also is seeing time in goal and is 5-1.

Other seniors are Jack Borden (defenseman, North), Jakob Myers (forward, Central), Nick Olson (forward, North) and Nathan Vititoe (defenseman, Central).

Other players are juniors Ian Bushong (defenseman, Central), Ryan Butler (forward, South), Travis Furman (defenseman, North), Justin Kahle (defenseman, Columbus Academy), Jack Larimer (defenseman, North), Evan Leeth (forward, North), Cameron Morris (forward, Central) and Seth Sooley (forward, Central), sophomore Cameron Myers (defenseman, South) and freshman Nicholas Fagan (forward, North).

Westerville went 3-1 in the Midwest Thanksgiving Classic on Nov. 25-27 at Chiller North.

"Guys are figuring out their roles and where they're going to fit in," Thompson said. "It's the nature of high school hockey. Our team can go a long way. We have experience in all the right spots."
