Fatal accident leads to charges of negligent vehicular homicide

Whitehall police have charged a 41-year-old man with negligent vehicular homicide in the Nov. 15 death of 42-year-old East Side woman.

Nikki Woods, 42, of Mapleridge Drive, was killed and three other people injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, on South Hamilton Road at East Mound Street.

Vannasak Pachith, 41, of Bernhard Road, is charged with one count of negligent vehicular homicide, a first-degree misdemeanor.

He has been summoned to appear at 9 a.m. Nov. 30 in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Woods was driving a Pontiac Sunbird north on South Hamilton Road when Pachith, driving a Lexus, turned left from eastbound East Mound Street to northbound South Hamilton Road, striking the left rear of Woods’ vehicle.

The collision propelled Woods’ vehicle into a southbound Toyota Sienna driven by Kontarh Kpogba-Brown, of Irongate Lane, police said.

Brown and two passengers in Woods’ vehicle, a 22-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son, were treated at area hospitals for non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Pachith was not injured in the three-car accident, police said.

South Hamilton Road was closed between East Main Street and Livingston Avenue until about noon Nov. 15 while police investigated the fatal accident.
