The Whitehall Division of Fire will flush area fire hydrants from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from May 15 through June 28.
Flushing of the hydrants assures that each hydrant is in proper working order. It also eliminates dirt and debris that may cause a malfunction of either the hydrant or the fire engine during use.
Hydrants that fail inspection will be turned in for repair and marked so as to avoid confusion during an emergency.
The flushing process can cause rusty water to appear from residential water service. While it does not present an immediate hazard, residents should allow water to run until clear if rusty water appears. Avoid doing laundry during the times of hydrant flushing in a specific area.
