Whitehall: Youngstown man faces robbery, assault charges in Whitehall

Whitehall police arrested a Youngstown man for aggravated robbery and felonious assault April 19 after he allegedly grabbed a woman's purse and dragged the woman with his motor vehicle in the parking lot of Kroger, 3675 E. Broad St.

Police arrested Bertie B. Burley, 50, whose last known address was in Youngstown. Burley confessed to the crime, police said.

Burley was identified and apprehended after police released a video recording of the assault and public tips assisted police in locating and apprehending Burley.

Police allege Burley forcibly grabbed the purse of a 37-year-old Whitehall woman as she was putting groceries into her vehicle.

Burley struck the woman repeatedly and took the purse, police said. The woman tried to recover the purse but was dragged alongside Burley's car as he drove away, police said.
