Whitehall: Ex-boyfriend charged with assault, domestic violence, robbery

Wednesday May 8, 2013 8:20 PM

An 18-year-old woman told Whitehall police she was assaulted and robbed at 12:45 a.m. April 29 at her apartment in the 4600 block of East Main Street.

The woman told police a former boyfriend took her cellphone and keys and threw both items and then choked her and struck her three times in the face.

She said the suspect had called her before arriving and threatened to break windows if she wouldn't come outside. Once she went outside, the suspect accused her of cheating on him and attacked her, police said.

The suspect and the woman had a prior domestic relationship, having lived together from May 2010 to April 2012, according to the report, and most recently split two months ago.

Police located a man who had been with the suspect at the scene but did not find the suspect. Police issued a warrant for the arrest of Duane Braxton, 20, of 1304 S. Kellner Road, charging him with assault and domestic violence.

Braxton fled in a car with another male who had remained in the vehicle during the assault, police said.

He was arraigned May 1 on charges of domestic violence, assault and robbery. The robbery charge is a second-degree felony. The assault and domestic-violence charges are first-degree misdemeanors. He is scheduled for a pretrial for the misdemeanor charges May 8 and faces a preliminary hearing May 10 for the robbery charge.
