Whitehall: Man injured when shots fired into crowd

Whitehall police reported a 24-year-old man was injured when two unknown men fired multiple shots into a crowd of people at 11:35 p.m. May 2 in the parking lot of an apartment in the first block of South Hamilton Road.

The man, who resides at the apartment building, underwent surgery at Grant Medical Center, police said.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots in the area, and a second caller reported a man had been shot and was lying on the ground outside the south side of the apartment building.

Witnesses told police the man and two other men were standing with two or three unknown females. One of the men, but not the victim, was arguing with the females, police said.

During this exchange, two other males arrived, and one said, "Is that the one?" or "Is that him?" the witness told police.

That man fired multiple shots toward the group, police said.

Witnesses provided a description of the man to police and said he appeared to have a small-caliber black handgun.

The two suspects fled in a white Cadillac or Toyota Camry.

Police impounded numerous shell casings.
