A Whitehall woman is charged with felonious assault after stabbing another woman early Monday morning, July 22, inside her Valerie Lane residence.

Whitehall police arrested Elizabeth Virginia Turner, 36, of 751 Valerie Lane and charged her with one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony.

The alleged victim, 40-year-old Ericka Harris, of the 800 block of South Hamilton Road, Columbus, remained in critical condition July 25 at a Columbus-area hospital, police said. No information on her condition was available as of July 29.

Turner remained in custody July 29 at the Franklin County jail.

She was arraigned July 23 in Franklin County Municipal Court, where Judge Carrie Glaeden ordered a surety or cash bond of $100,000 and an appearance bond of $200,000.

Turner was scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 1 in municipal court.

Whitehall police were called to Turner's residence at 2:06 a.m. July 22 and found Turner attempting to give first aid to Harris on the front lawn of the residence, Whitehall Detective Steve Brown said.

Turner and Harris were acquainted, and family members said the two women were known to drink alcohol together at either of their residences, Brown said.

Family members also indicated the two women had argued in the past but remained acquaintances, police said.

"We don't know yet why it turned out different this time," Brown said.

Turner has not provided any details about the incident other than to say the stabbing was an accident, Brown said.

It appeared the assault began inside the Valerie Lane residence before spilling outside, he said.

After the stabbing, Turner allegedly ran to a neighbor's house and asked for the person to call police. The weapon used in the assault was recovered at the scene. Turner was arrested at the scene without further incident, police said.

According to municipal court records, Turner, while living in Urbancrest, was arrested in 1998 for felonious assault.
