The public is invited to donate unwanted computers, small appliances and other electronics on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Whitehall Goodwill Center in the Town & Country Shopping Center.
The event, sponsored by Goodwill Columbus and RecycleForce Columbus, will dispose of items in accordance with Responsible Recycling (R2) standards, which guarantee the destruction of sensitive data stored on donated electronic items; the safe handling of materials such as mercury and lead; and assurance that donated materials will not end up in landfills.
Items accepted include DVD players, portable audio players, cell phones, chargers, power adapters, video game systems, desktop computers and accessories, stereo equipment, audiovisual equipment, microwaves, fitness equipment, vacuums, fax machines, scanners, copiers, printers, ink and toner cartridges, cameras, CDs, cassette and 8-track tapes and Christmas lights.
Goodwill does not charge to accept computer monitors. RecycleForce accepts monitors for a $5 fee.
RecycleForce will take televisions up to 27 inches for a $5 donation. Televisions larger than 27 inches will be accepted for a $10 donation.
