Whitehall police investigating shooting at Paradise Sheesha Lounge
Whitehall police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, inside the Paradise Sheesha Lounge, 1121 S. Hamilton Road.
Dennis Lawson, 39, of east Columbus, was shot once in the stomach, Whitehall police said, and was transported to Grant Medical Center, where he was in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.
Multiple 911 calls were received about 2:45 a.m. Sept. 11, when the shooting occurred, Whitehall Sgt. Dan Kelso said.
“There was an altercation at the bar before the shooting,” Kelso said, adding that police still are interviewing witnesses to determine the nature of the dispute.
Police also had interviewed Lawson by Wednesday afternoon, Kelso said.
“It’s too early in the investigation for (police) to say more,” Kelso said.
Paradise Sheesha Lounge does not hold a liquor license. The establishment, known as a “hookah bar,” is for smoking tobacco products, police said.
