Whitehall police reported a 6-year-old boy was injured when he was struck by a car about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, on South Hamilton Road, between Mound Street and Josephus Lane.
Whitehall medics transported the boy to Nationwide Children's Hospital, Fire Chief Preston Moore said. He remained there in serious condition as of Monday, Feb. 24, reports said.
A motorist from Kansas, driving south on South Hamilton Road, struck the boy when he stepped into the roadway, Whitehall Sgt. Dan Kelso said.
The driver remained at the scene.
"Alcohol and speed were not a factor," Kelso said.
It is believed the 6-year-old boy and an older sibling had left a fast-food restaurant at East Main Street and South Hamilton Road, then attempted to cross Hamilton.
"They were outside the crosswalk," Moore said.
No charges are expected to be filed, however, the accident remains under investigation, Kelso said.
