Less than a month after Whitehall announced the rebranding of the Airport South Commerce & Tech Park, a well-known Columbus-based company has announced plans to occupy a portion of it.
Rite Rug will open a 150,000-square-foot distribution center and outlet showroom in a portion of the former Kroger distribution center at Poth and North Yearling roads, said Whitehall Development Director Zach Woodruff.
The carpet and flooring store also will relocate its property management division to the new facility, Woodruff said.
Founded in 1934, Rite Rug is headquartered at 3949 Business Park Drive on Columbus' West Side. The new location in Whitehall represents an expansion for the company.
Rite Rug has 11 locations in central Ohio.
Thirty new jobs are to be created at the Whitehall site, Woodruff said.
Erin Appleman, president of marketing and merchandising for Rite Rug, said the Whitehall location provides "further room to grow" and is in a prime location for its purpose as a distribution center to Rite Rug retail outlets throughout Ohio and 10 other states.
The property management division is already in place at the new site, Appleman said Friday, March 7.
Within the past week, distributions from the location commenced. The outlet showroom is not yet open.
"Renovations are underway and we expect it should be open in about eight weeks," Appleman said.
Woodruff said the Rite Rug opening will "showcase the strengths of the new tech park."
Rite Rug is leasing the 150,000-square-foot portion of the former Kroger site from Robinson Investments, which purchased the former Kroger distribution center last year.
"We couldn't be more thrilled a company of this caliber chose to grow in Whitehall," Woodruff said.
The Whitehall site is one of three new sites for Rite Rug this year, Appleman said.
Construction is underway for a new retail store on North High Street in the Beechwold area of Columbus, and a new store will be built later this year on North Hamilton Road in the Gahanna-New Albany area.
