Whitehall resident Stefanie Huber, 26, whose story was featured in the March 6 ThisWeek Whitehall News, was conditionally released March 18 from the Franklin County jail, her mother, Susan Starr Smith, told the News.
Huber was arrested Jan. 30 and charged with possession of drug-abuse instruments. Smith asked the magistrate at Whitehall Mayor's Court to implement the maximum 90-day sentence for her daughter to help her overcome her heroin addiction.
Huber was summoned to Whitehall Mayor's Court March 18, where magistrate Sean Maxfield released her from the remainder of the 90-day sentence, which Huber began serving Jan. 30, Smith said.
Huber is required to enter a substance abuse program, and Smith said she has done so. Huber must appear April 22 in Mayor's Court, Smith said.
Huber's account of her first experience behind bars and Smith's account of her effort to appeal to the court magistrate to sentence her to jail was reported March 6 in the News.
