Thomas Worthington High School boys golf coach Jay Addy isn't too disappointed with his team's finish in the OCC-Central Division tournament.

The Cardinals shot a 319 in the final round of the league tournament Sept. 17 at Darby Creek to finish fifth behind Hilliard Davidson (302), Upper Arlington (303), Dublin Coffman (304) and Hilliard Darby (310) and ahead of Worthington Kilbourne (346), Central Crossing (354) and Westland (383). Brad Lucas led the Cardinals with a 1-under-par 71.

Thomas finished fourth overall at 16-12 behind UA (25-3), Coffman (24-4) and Davidson (22-6) and ahead of Darby (13-15), Kilbourne (8-20), Central Crossing (4-24) and Westland (0-28).

"We're in a tough division, so it's nice to finish up where we did," Addy said.

"I knew Coffman and UA would be very good, but I didn't know that much about Davidson. They're pretty solid. They're a good team as well."

Lucas had a four-round average of 74.75 and made first-team all-league. The OCC-Central Player of the Year in 2007, he narrowly missed retaining that title as Davidson's Matt Renner (72.5) had a lower average.

Brandon Lortz averaged 78 and made second-team all-league and Ryan Conlon averaged 81.25 and received honorable mention.

Thomas will compete in the Division I sectional Wednesday at Players Club at Foxfire. The top four teams and top four individuals on non-qualifying teams advance to district Oct. 7 at Apple Valley.

Among the 13 teams at the sectional site are top-seeded Jerome, Davidson, Canal Winchester, New Albany and Olentangy.

"I'm actually pretty happy (about the sectional draw), to be honest," Addy said. "I know Jerome will get out (to district), but I think there will be five or six teams, including us, fighting for those other three spots. And on that course, anything can happen.

"We've been a little up and down this year. But if we have a decent day, I think we can get out."

Thomas qualified for district last year for the first time since 2004. The Cardinals shot a 331 to finish 13th of 16 teams.

ĽKilbourne coach Gavin Meeks said his team improved throughout the OCC-Central tournament and that Alex Watson and Justin Zebrowski gained valuable experience that should help them in league play next year.

"Every round we got better," said Meeks, whose team's lowest score in the tournament was the 346 that it shot in the final round. "Even though the scores weren't fantastic, we improved. It's a good learning experience for the juniors to get their feet wet and find out what the OCCs are all about. That's good for next year."

Jonny Price turned in the lowest score for the Wolves in all four rounds, including a 73 in the final round, and made first-team all-league with a 75.5 average. He and UA's Colin Allen tied for the third-lowest average behind Renner (72.5) and Lucas (74.75).

No other Wolves players earned all-league honors.

Kilbourne will compete in the Division I sectional Wednesday at Darby Creek. Among the 13 teams at the site will be third-seeded Mount Vernon, fifth-seeded Coffman and Watterson.

"I think our guys like the draw," Meeks said.

"There are three solid teams there. Barring a major disaster, (Mount Vernon, Coffman and Watterson) should go (to district). But the other spot is wide open. No one thinks we're a threat to take that spot, but anything is possible."

Kilbourne hasn't qualified for district as a team since 2002.
